A school requires an architecture that offers room for self-development and creativity. A school building with inspiring and exciting places where students can work individually or in groups. With enough light and fresh air to stay alert all day long. With places where students can concentrate or places that give space to meet other students.

The school building naturally blends into its small-scale living environment. The building is divided into a flexible part for the classrooms and offices, and a separate part for the café and playroom, which is in open connection with both schoolyards. There is a wall with large openings all around the schoolyard; a reference to the nearby monastery garden, which creates a soft transition between neighborhood and school.
The building is divided into several compartments, so that it can be used in many ways, also after school hours and by other users. A clear distinction has been made between 'rest' (classrooms), 'noise' (learning squares) and 'noise' (café and playroom in the schoolyard).
Because the interior of the building (especially the learning wing) consists entirely of separate built-in systems, it can be used completely flexibly. In this way, the building can grow along with changing educational visions and (more or less) users.

As school architect Herman Hertzberger once put it: 'The school is a training ground for living together'.
