The new volume seems to have 'slid' into the existing structure like a box. The architecture of the extension is modern and refined, the new volume is a contrast to the existing house but not dominant. Looking at the back of the house from the garden, the modern, transparent façade of the extension reveals the original structure of the existing house. This original structure is also reflected in the interior.
The interior is a balanced mix between large, coarse structures and simple and refined elements. The constructive wooden beams in the ceiling give the kitchen a warm and atmospheric feel and provide a nice contrast to the clean floor and the sleek kitchen design.
The relationship between the interior of the extension and its surroundings is reflected in the design in several ways. Standing in front of the kitchen sink, you have both a view of the front garden and the street in front of the house and an unobstructed view of the back garden. Additional daylight comes in through a skylight in the ceiling above the kitchen sink.
Great attention has been paid to the smallest details in this seemingly simple-looking extension and kitchen design.
