Oude Werf

In collaboration with Zecc Architects, Lindeloof Garden & Landscape Architects and De Langen & Van den Berg, we have won the competition for the new construction of 50 homes at the ‘Werf van Duijvendijk’ in Krimpen aan den IJssel. The project consists of four buildings around a raised and publicly accessible courtyard.

The former shipyard Joh. Van Duijvendijk is one of the oldest shipyards in the Netherlands and the first with a parallel slipway. The latter element will be preserved in the redevelopment of the wharf and turned into a water-square with space for recreation and festivities.

The new Oude Werf housing block consists of four individually recognizable buildings, which will be constructed of brick and wood, among other things. The buildings are named, 'het Dijkhuis', 'het Scheepshuis', 'het Kraanhuis' and 'het Pakhuis'. These names all have an association with the history of the location and the port and warehouse typology.

A half-sunken parking garage with seventy parking spaces will be built under the residential buildings, with a publicly accessible courtyard on top. The private terraces of the residents are also oriented towards this inner garden. Striking elements in the garden are the trees and water features with riverbank plants, which refer to the original landscape of the Zellingen.

The plan provides for different housing types. The houses vary not only in size, but also in typology, so different target groups can be served. For the most part, the project consists of single-story apartments; from compact two-room apartments for starters to spacious apartments. There are also town houses with a front door on the quay, a special gatehouse and several penthouses. Construction work is expected to start at the end of 2023 and the project will be completed in March 2025.
